# Moderate Mafia: separate night actions from public information

Useful Mafia moderation distinguishes a private action from what becomes public during the day. Prepare that transition before the first night starts.

Mafia attacks at night, the Detective checks a person and the Doctor can protect. During the day, active players discuss and vote according to the selected sequence.

## Agree participants and moderation first

Mafia supports five to twenty active players. Someone who only moderates should not simply count as an extra active citizen. Check actual participation and explain moderation. The assigned roles and current app sequence are the reference. Not every familiar special role appears in every arrangement. A broad role catalogue does not promise that your exact five-person game contains every role simultaneously or lets you freely add invented roles to the current distribution.

## Let everyone read private role information

Pass the iPhone for individual viewing. Each person reads the task and special guidance before closing the view. Explain general controls openly without exposing particular roles. A Detective needs their actual task rather than someone else’s memory of a previous version. If a card is unclear, clarify the rule term before starting where possible. Avoid inventing conditions halfway through a night that only one player understands or that differ from what other players read.

## Distinguish the night actions

At night, players close their eyes and follow calls. Mafia selects a target. The Detective can check a person for Mafia membership. The Doctor can protect a person from a Mafia attack; the actual card gives further details. Carry out actions according to the current sequence. This guide does not invent an alternative ordering for every possible variant. Anyone bringing habits from another version should read the current task again rather than assuming the same action limits.

## Avoid accidental information leaks

As moderator, keep language and reactions neutral during private actions. A noticeable laugh or comment on a decision may reveal more than intended. The group should hear only public outcomes appropriate to the sequence. A protected person does not automatically reveal the Doctor’s identity. The Detective holds private information whose use is part of play. Extra unconfirmed details should not accidentally enter the daytime announcement, particularly when participants are interpreting the outcome for their first discussion.

## Compare observations and claims by day

After the public night information, active players discuss. Ask about statements and their connections rather than demanding private phone views as proof. A role claim is not automatically true; bluffing is part of the game too. Give everyone an opportunity and watch changing explanations. This is editorial discussion advice rather than an automatic evidence system in the app. Volume, friendship and nervousness do not replace information from the current round or establish someone’s role by themselves.

## Read voting and victory conditions together

Public voting belongs to the day. Clarify controls and uncertain cases using the selected game before restarting. Citizens win when Mafia is eliminated; Mafia wins at numerical parity with the remaining people. Assigned lovers can have a separate winning condition. Do not overwrite that situation with a general citizen rule. Follow the roles actually present and reveal them at the intended finish. Rules from a remembered variant should not determine an outcome the current role instructions describe differently.

## Restart clearly after an information mistake

If a private role accidentally becomes visible, pause and say which information is now known. Agree whether to finish or restart appropriately. Do not pretend previously read cards have become secret again. Afterwards, discuss the control mistake without blame and explain the next pass more clearly. A written sequence note can support moderation; it is your preparation rather than a moderation feature launched on the iPhone by this page. Make the next starting conditions clear to every participant.

## Your quick check

- Agree five to twenty active players and moderation.
- Read role guidance individually.
- Separate Mafia, Detective and Doctor actions.
- Announce only intended public night information.
- Check victory conditions including assigned special roles.

## Protection is not a role reveal

A person survives a night action through the specified protection rule. The moderator announces the public result without spontaneously naming the Doctor. The group discusses what it knows. Private information stays where the sequence places it rather than revealing roles through a casual comment about the outcome.

## Common questions about this topic

**Is Mafia’s Doctor identical to Werewolf’s Witch?**

No. The games have separate tasks. The checked Witch has limited potions; the Mafia Doctor follows its own role information.

**Should a moderator name every role each night?**

No. Keep private actions and public outcomes separate according to the selected sequence.
