# Game night for six: a bluffing circle or two teams?

Six people can share a bluffing circle or form two small teams. Werewolf, with a minimum of seven, is not part of this selection yet.

Six active players can use Imposter, Spy, Mafia and Taboo among other games. Count real participants; an additional name does not create a seventh player.

## Count active participants before starting

Six people present are not always six players. Ask who will actually join the next round and whether someone will watch or moderate. The finder uses active participants. With an external moderator, check the actual player count again. This matters particularly for Mafia, whose minimum is five. Agree whether the explaining person will play before starting, rather than changing the arrangement halfway through a private role distribution when some people have already seen their information.

## Start with a shared clue format

Imposter starts at four and fits six active players. Everyone except the Imposter knows the secret word; follow the specified clues and then discuss suspicion. One clear pass with an even order helps six people more than immediate interruptions. Let an unusual word stand initially. Comparing all the clues gives it context. A private app view stays private rather than becoming a shared-screen display just because everybody is sitting around the same table.

## Choose Spy for questions instead of associations

If the group prefers questioning, Spy offers a different task. Informed players know the location and their role while the Spy tries to follow. Ask about daily situations there without naming it directly. For six people, an agreed speaking order prevents two players from dominating every exchange. The Spy can win by guessing the place. An excessively revealing question may therefore help the hidden player more than the rest of the group investigating them.

## Prepare two teams for Taboo

Taboo is listed from four players. Six can form two teams of three as an editorial seating suggestion. This is practical group organisation rather than a new app mode. Clarify who explains, who guesses and who checks forbidden words, then follow actual settings. Rotate the explaining role. Different language or knowledge strengths can help balance teams. The loudest players do not need to occupy the most important roles throughout the whole evening for everyone to contribute.

## Choose Mafia as a deliberate longer sequence

Mafia starts at five, with secret roles, night, discussion and voting. It fits six active players but involves more than one brief clue pass. Agree on moderation and read the role guidance. Not every special role must appear in every arrangement; the assigned roles matter. Decide how eliminated participants will handle secret knowledge. A newcomer should understand when to close their eyes and when they will be addressed before the first night begins.

## Respect both sides of the player limits

Werewolf begins at seven active players. A six-person group does not become larger by recounting its host or adding an imaginary name. Chooser is limited to five and therefore also does not fit the full group of six. If a genuinely smaller subgroup makes a separate selection, describe it as a different situation. Accurate counts avoid disappointing starts and make switching among suitable games easier without promising unsupported versions of existing games.

## Plan complete-round switching points

Start with a full Imposter or Spy round, then choose another bluff or Taboo. Choose Mafia when everyone wants a more involved role sequence. That order is an editorial suggestion, not a promised duration in minutes. Account for arrivals or breaks and count again before the next round. A clear finishing point is easier than switching halfway through private information that some players have already viewed while others are still waiting for their turn.

## Your quick check

- Count six genuinely active players.
- Agree moderator or spectator roles first.
- Explain clues or questions clearly.
- Organise Taboo teams as a group agreement.
- Exclude Werewolf and Chooser for the full six.

## One person wants to moderate

Six people sit together. One wants only to moderate Mafia, leaving five active players. Mafia remains within its minimum. For the next Taboo round all six play again. Neither arrangement reaches Werewolf’s minimum. The relevant count follows what people currently do, not simply how many chairs are occupied.
