# Which party game fits your group?

The best fit is a game your group wants to play today. Three questions make the choice easier.

Check numbers, play style and attention in that order. The table shows each game’s actual player limits.

## How many people are actually playing?

Count those who want to join the next round. Someone watching or arriving later is not yet an active player. The overall catalogue covers 2 to 20 people; each individual game does not support every group size.

## What kind of tension do you want?

Bluff games use secret information and discussion. Word games focus on explaining or guessing. Conversation games let you compare answers. Decision and challenge games suit a different mood. Choose a style together before opening every category.

## How much attention is available?

In a noisy group with people coming and going, private information and long discussions are harder to follow. Start with something easy to explain. If everyone wants to listen closely, a role game may fit well. This is advice for the evening, not an extra technical requirement.

## Review after the first round

Ask briefly: were the rules clear, did everyone have a turn, and do we want another round of this kind? Change games if it does not fit. An awkward beginning does not decide how the whole evening will go.

## Explain the choice between two games

For four active players, both Imposter and Taboo fit. Their tasks differ: in Imposter, players protect private knowledge while the group investigates a bluff; in Taboo, someone explains to a team under word restrictions. Ask a concrete question: do we want to examine statements or find words together? Give newcomers the same short rules overview. A reasoned choice does not need a vote on all fifteen titles. It also prevents the most familiar name from deciding the whole evening by default.

## Account for spectators and changing numbers

Count again before a new start. Six active players and two spectators do not make an eight-player Werewolf round. When someone arrives later, finish the current round before rebuilding the group, then check the limits again. Chooser stops at five, so moving to six requires another choice. Watching can help someone learn the rules, but a spectator who sees private information should avoid supplying clues to the live discussion. Participation numbers describe people playing, rather than everyone in the room.

## Replace a poor fit for a specific reason

Name what did not suit the group after the first round. If discussion felt exhausting, another bluff game may not help; look at conversation or word games. If personal questions felt uncomfortable, another question set alone may be an unsuitable switch. If only one rule was unclear, explain that point and try the same kind of round again. Choosing from an observed difficulty helps you avoid reproducing the same problem under a different game title and gives quieter participants something concrete to assess.

## Compare every game

Counts refer to active players in the round. Open a game for its full instructions.
